Certifications and memberships
NorthC has several certifications that guarantee and demonstrate the quality and continuity of our services. This is one of the reasons why we can offer you the quality you expect. Each year, independent auditors test us against these standards. A detailed description of the certifications can be found below.
ISO 9001 – Quality Management System
ISO 9001 is a quality management system. It guarantees the quality of our services and the continuous improvement of our services and of customer satisfaction. An independent certifying body carries out an annual audit of NorthC’s quality management system. As a result, we are able to ensure a consistently high level of quality for our customers.
This certification is valid in: Aalsmeer, Almere, Amsterdam, Delft, Eindhoven, Groningen, Oude Meer, Rotterdam Waalhaven, Rotterdam Zestienhoven, Munich, and Nuremberg.
ISO 14001 – Environmental Management System
ISO 14001 focuses on the environmental policy and its implementation by an organization. This is an international standard and ensures effective management of the environmental risks of data center operations. It demonstrates that NorthC complies with environmental laws and regulations. We map out and set targets for the environmental aspects we need to comply with. For example waste separation, reducing energy consumption and using water sparingly. Additionally, the reuse of residual heat is an important issue, both internally and externally. Internally, we preheat our backup power generators using residual heat from our data center. Externally, we use this heat to exchange energy with buildings in the surrounding area. In exchange for our residual heat, we receive cold water with which we cool our data rooms. This results in a win-win situation.

ISO 27001 – Information Security System
In ISO 27001, data security is the top priority. This affects all forms of information within an organization. For example personal and company data, financial information, or data entrusted to third parties. Or what to do in case of a data breach or hack. The information security standard specifies the requirements for determining, implementing, monitoring, assessing, tracking, and improving information security risks. Everything is documented and recorded in the Information Security Management System (ISMS).
This certification is valid in: Aalsmeer, Almere, Amsterdam, Delft, Eindhoven, Groningen, Oude Meer, Rotterdam Waalhaven, Rotterdam Zestienhoven, Munich, and Nuremberg.
ISO 22301 – Business Continuity
ISO 22301 is the standard for business continuity. Continuous availability is essential for data center operations. This also applies to calamities. For NorthC, redundancy is an absolute must. We take significant steps to ensure this. All our data centers are built according to the Tier 3 rating. At certain points, we surpass this. Our data center in Eindhoven was built according to the Tier 4 rating.

NEN 7510 – Information Security Standard in Healthcare
NEN 7510 is based on ISO 27001 and is the specifically Dutch standard certification for information security, focused on healthcare. It is a requirement for healthcare institutions and organizations that store and process patient data. For patients, hospitals, and health insurance companies, this is proof that NorthC guarantees a safe environment to store confidential information such as electronic health records.

PCI DSS – Credit Card Transactions
PCI DSS stands for Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, which is the international security standard for credit card transactions. This is an initiative by the following credit card companies: Visa Inc., Mastercard, JCB, American Express, and Discover Financial Services. The standard aims to protect credit card data and helps prevent fraud and misuse of card data. Companies that store, process, and/or transmit credit card or international debit card data must comply with the PCI DSS standard. This is checked annually. This certification is a must, especially for our customers in the financial sector and for owners of large web shops. NorthC offers security via our layered physical security and strict access policies. Our measures include biometric scanners, CCTV surveillance inside and outside, and have security staff on site 24/7.

ISAE 3402 Type II Assessed
The International Standard for Assurance Engagements (ISAE) verifies the information security of outsourced processes. Organizations are increasingly outsourcing business-critical processes, especially IT processes. ISAE tests whether third parties comply with all agreements. Examples include the physical security of the data center, staff screening, and whether data is retained any longer than legally required.
This statement is available for all our data centers in the Netherlands, and our data centers in Munich and Nuremberg.
DDA – Dutch Data Centre Association
NorthC is a member and co-founder of the Dutch branch organization of data centers, the Dutch Data Centre Association (DDA). Data centers are the foundation of our digital economy. It is the DDA’s mission to strengthen economic growth and to ensure that importance of the data center sector is recognized by the government, the media, and society as a whole. Its ambitions focus on three areas: Energy & Sustainability, Education & Employment, and Digital Economy & Mainport. As a sector, we promote a sustainable digital economy and high quality infrastructure. We are committed to making the Netherlands the digital mainport to Europe. This includes knowledge sharing and developing talent. NorthC is at the forefront of sustainability. For example, we exchange the residual heat from our data centers with buildings in the surrounding area. In Eindhoven, we provide heat energy to the High Tech Campus. And in our data center Aalsmeer, we provide heat to De Waterlelie sports center, the Triade children’s center, and to Fertiplant – an exporter of pot plants. In return, we receive cold water which we use to sustainably cool our data rooms.
